Become a Substitute Teacher in Wyoming

The Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board offers two paths to becoming a substitute teacher:

Requirements Ways to Become WY Substitute Teacher
  • Complete a minimum of 65 semester hours from a regionally accredited institution
  • Submit a complete application packet
  • Successfully complete U.S. and Wyoming Constitution exams
  • Submit fingerprints and receive a clear background check
College Credit Path
  • Hold a high school diploma (or GED equivalent)
  • Complete a minimum of 24 hours of school district in-district training
  • Complete a minimum of 30 hours of classroom observation (10 hours per grade level: elementary, middle, and high school)
  • Submit a complete application packet
  • Successfully complete U.S. and Wyoming Constitution exams
  • Submit fingerprints and receive a clear background check
